Artist Victoria Burgher worked with school groups, and members of the church congregation and local community to make ‘Crown’; a wreath of chrysanthemums individually made from metal foils. The flowers were made during workshops led by Burgher, and the wreath designed to be hung from the exterior of All Saints Leyton striking triangular west wall. The chrysanthemums echo William Morris’s famous wallpaper, as well as referencing their use in celebrations of All Saints’ Day in France, where wreaths called “œcouronnes de toussaints” are placed at graves in an act of remembrance. The work thereby offers a public focus for remembering loved ones.
